Players and participants

A player is any online or known Minecraft user. A participant is a player who is part of a specific event according to the event rules.

Why the difference matters

Not every player on the server should always receive event rewards.

For example:

  • all online players may see a broadcast;
  • only participants should receive a tournament reward;
  • only winners should receive the final prize;
  • only staff may control the event.

Online players

Some actions may only work when a player is online. This is especially important for:

  • item rewards;
  • teleport commands;
  • titles;
  • sounds;
  • direct messages.

If a reward must work for offline players, use a plugin or command that supports offline targets.

Staff and players

Separate staff permissions from player participation.

A staff member may be able to manage an event without being a participant.

Best practices

  • Test events with one staff account and one normal player account.
  • Verify that only valid participants receive rewards.
  • Avoid giving admin permissions to event participants.
  • Keep winner selection and reward execution easy to audit.

Support checklist

When reporting a participant issue, include:

  • the event name;
  • the affected player name;
  • whether the player was online;
  • the expected reward;
  • the console error, if any;
  • the relevant event configuration.
